Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 690 chipset which will be the first in the SD 600 line-up to support 5G connectivity.
What makes it tick?
It comes packed with an X51 modem that lets the chip connect to sub-6Ghz bands. This is Qualcomm’s bid to make 5G smartphone more affordable in the near future as it slowly becomes the networking standard.
Premium features
But affordability doesn’t mean boring – the Snapdragon 690 offers provisions for a bunch of premium features such as 120Hz display support at FHD+ resolutions, 4K HDR video recording, Quick Charge 4+ fast charging support, Wi-Fi 6, and more.
Early adopters
The first smartphone makes to use the new chipset include LG, Motorola, Sharp, TCL and more. The only other chipsets from Qualcomm that support 5G are the SD 865, which is for flagship devices, and the SD 765 and SD 768, which are made for upper mid-range smartphones.
So, with the Snapdragon 690, we’re excited to see 5G become more accessible to the masses, but at the same time not lose out on top-notch smartphone features like the ones offered by the chipset.
