Philips W6618 with 5300mAh battery announced in China

Philips used to be pretty active in the mobile phone market, they are popular for releasing phones that have superb battery life and can even be powered by two simple AAA batteries. The company has recently announced a dual SIM Androidsmartphone with a whooping 5300mAh battery onboard.

The W6618 from Philips has a 5-inch QHD (960×540) resolution display and uses a Mediatek MT6582M 1.3GHz quad core processor paired with 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. Other things include a 8MP main camera, 2MP front facing camera and comes preloaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The specs will be sufficient for users who simply want their phone to be able to make calls, instant messaging and browse the web. The 5300mAh battery will be the main selling point of the phone, as the company is able to squeeze in such a huge battery in a 5-inch form factor with a mere thickness of 11.4mm.

Speaking of its power features, there is a button on the phone that lets you activate an “extreme power saving mode” that will increase the phone’s standby time up to 54%. Philips also mentioned that the power saving mode will give the phone a standby time of up to 66 days and a talktime up to 33 hours. Additionally, Philips has also added quick charging mode that will charge a dead battery as fast as 4 hours, a 10 minute charge will give the phone 20 hours of standby time and 1 hour of talktime.

The Philips W6618 retails at RMB1699, which translates to around RM885, the phone will also support WCDMA and GSM networks, we hope Philips will bring this model into Malaysia, we’ve been longing for smartphones like this.
