Rumors have nailed it yet again. OnePlus will officially unveil its next flagship, the OnePlus 3 on June 14, which is a little less than two weeks from now. This time, OnePlus has promised the handset to be invite-free.
OnePlus, has a pretty controversial history when it comes to pushing out their phones, notably the OnePlus One. The first “Flagship Killer” was known for its exclusive invite system, plus the company had a hard time keeping up with the overwhelming demand by consumers and fans, which then again isn’t surprising for a manufacturing startup. Nevertheless, the OnePlus One boasted flagship specs, being compared to the likes of the Galaxy S5 by Samsung back then, but at half the price. The company went on with the OnePlus 2 last year, which didn’t generate as much hype as its predecessor, followed by the mid range OnePlus X, flaunting a glass build with 2014 flagship specs.
The OnePlus 3, like the OnePlus 2, will be launched via VR. The company wrote history last year by making the OnePlus 2 the first smartphone to be launched using virtual reality. This time, OnePlus aims to provide a global VR shopping experience as well, again, the first ever to happen. OnePlus wants to invite you to the Loop, which is the OnePlus 3’s VR launch, doubling as the world’s first global VR shopping experience. In the teaser video by OnePlus, co-founder Carl Pei in hologram form announces that they will open the world’s first virtual reality store in outer space, so be sure to suit up.
The OnePlus 3 will be launched at 12:30pm Eastern Time, which will be 12:30am Malaysian Time on the 15th of June, and the device will be open for sale at 3:00pm (3:00am Malaysian Time), and as mentioned earlier, it will be invite free! The app for the VR launch is already available for download at the Play Store here. Chances are that the OnePlus 3 won’t be immediately available to Malaysian consumers after the launch, but we’re hoping that it won’t arrive too late.
Rounding up the rumors of the flagship device, which might probably be spot on as well – a 5.5-inch Full HD OLED display, a Snapdragon 820 SoC with 4GB or 6GB of RAM alongside 64GB of internal storage, a 16MP primary camera and 8MP selfie shooter, a 3,000mAh battery and NFC support. A recent leaked render shows that the OnePlus 3 will be sporting a metal design this time, instead of the OnePlus signature Sandstone texture. What do you think?
