OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has finally spoken about the upcoming OnePlus 5T, whose name was also confirmed by him. In a post on OnePlus forums, Lau listed down a few reasons why the company decided to retain the headphone jack on the OnePlus 5T, and it looks like they have taken a lot of factors into consideration.
OnePlus has been known to survey its own users when it comes to building its flagships, and that shows in the company’s decision to keep the 3.5 mm headphone jack. First off, 70% of OnePlus users prioritize sound quality, something which wireless headphones have yet to achieve when compared to wired ones. It is however possible that the audio quality of some wireless headphones are comparable to wired headphones, but pricing is a whole different story.
Lau has also stated that 80% of OnePlus users use in-jack headphones and that the company even considered replacing the 3.5 mm headphone jack with another USB Type-C port to make the OnePlus 5T look slimmer in form factor. But they’ve decided that user experience wasn’t worth the trade off.
While he admits that wireless audio technology has a lot of potential, Lau claims that OnePlus’ goal from the start is to bring better technology into the world and that the company prioritizes its users. What are your thoughts on OnePlus’ decision?
