Now that 5G has easily exceeded the connection speeds of home fibre broadbands, Maxis has finally revamped its 5G wireless home broadband service to answer the competition, previously priced at RM158/month, the new Maxis 5G Home WiFi service now comes in three monthly plans.

Despite that, the service isn’t entirely unlimited as it comes with their respective Fair Usage Policy (FUP), the most affordable Maxis 5G Home WiFi 69 for instance only offers up 120GB of 5G data with no speed cap, while the mid-tier RM99/month plan will come with a speed cap of 100Mbps despite offering unlimited data, and finally, the top-tier Maxis 5G Home WiFi 139 offers unlimited data at a faster 300Mbps speed.

Speaking of unlimited data, Maxis is capping the quota at 1000GB just like U Mobile’s U Home 5G plan, which is considerably sufficient for small households but if you exceed the quota, the telco mentions that it has the right to reduce the speed or limit your usage of the service until the next billing cycle.

Also, unlike other telcos that offer a decent quota for 4G data as a backup, Maxis 5G Home WiFi only comes with 30GB of 4G data, which is only sufficient for basic household usage in the event of a 5G network downtime.

If you are signing up to Maxis 5G Home WiFi 69 and 139, you will have the option to bundle the subscription with a 5G Router worth RM1889 for a 24-month contract, you also get to subscribe to a Maxis postpaid plan with unlimited data, and free live sports and entertainment titles on sooka.

In our opinion, this would be the best 5G wireless broadband to go for if you already have a Maxis Postpaid subscription, and since all telcos in Malaysia are all using DNB’s 5G network for their 5G coverage, there are cheaper alternatives such as U Mobile’s U Home 5G and Yes 5G Home Wireless Broadband for RM68 and RM58 monthly respectively, and these latter two telcos don’t impose a speed cap on their plans either.
