The iPad Pro’s LiDAR Scanner might appear on the iPhone 12 Pro too

Apple added a LiDAR Scanner to its iPad Pro this year, but that might not only apply to its flagship tablet; recent reports suggested that Apple will also be including a LiDAR Scanner to the iPhone 12 Pro.

According to Concepts iPhone, the new iPhone Pro’s camera setup is discovered via iOS 14 leaked files. It should be available on both the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, allowing better depth sensing, especially when it comes to AR apps. This means that Apple will have to move its lenses around, so instead of getting the third lens in the center-right, it will be moved up so that the LiDAR Scanner can be at the bottom.

The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max getting a LiDAR Scanner is a smart move; while not many will utilise the camera on tablets, the same cannot be said for smartphone cameras. However, with the added LiDAR Scanner, we should expect this year’s iPhones to be slightly pricier than usual.

On the other hand, this could mean that the iPhone 12 might be getting an extra lens this year — most probably a telephoto lens.
