It’s official, Lenovo has announced the first Google Tango phone, the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro. The phone, which was just unveiled live from Silicon Valley, San Francisco will be the first phone to incorporate Google’s Project Tango technology, which the company has been working on for two years now.

For those of you who have been following our leaks regarding the device, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise. First of all, the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro sports a colossal 6.4-inch display at a lovely QHD resolution, with 454 PPI. Operating under the hood of this phablet is a mid range SoC – a Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB of RAM. Other specs include a fingerprint sensor and a huge 4,050mAh battery.

In the camera department is where the PHAB2 Pro shines, not only for photography purposes, but also the emphasis on Google’s Tango technology. The phablet features a 16MP primary camera and an 8MP front facing shooter. On top of those, the device has two additional cameras on its rear panel, one being the depth camera and the other, the motion tracking camera. With the help of these extra camera modules come Tango’s features, which enables the phone to map and track physical space around it. Educational apps and games, like 3D models of dinosaurs in an app by the American Museum of Natural History were demonstrated via incorporation of Tango technology, and apps for interior designing as well, where the app assists a designer by measuring and placing virtual furniture in the physical space captured by the Tango device.

Lenovo claims that 25 Tango apps will be available for download when the PHAB2 Pro launches this September. The company is aiming for 100 apps in total by the end of the year. The Lenovo PHAB2 Pro phablet will be sold globally once it launches. Lenovo has unveiled the US pricing for the PHAB2 Pro, which is $499 (RM2,020.23). What do you think?
