Kyocera smartphones are quite a hit in its homeland and the U.S, the company’s rugged smartphones are undoubtedly one of the best in the market that money can buy and Japanese customers will now be able to own the TORQUE G02 rugged smartphone which Kyocera claims to be able to submerge in saltish sea water of up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes.

Submerging an electronical device in the sea is no real joke, despite some phones being IP67 water and dust resistant, not many of them are able to get in contact with salt sea water, which will eventually cause corrosion to the phone’s parts and users will need to resort to an external case to avoid that. The TORQUE G02 doesn’t require a case to go under the sea, sporting a rugged chassis that is certified to MIL-STD-810G military standards and have went through Kyocera’s proprietary tests that ensures durability under water, Kyocera also ships the handset with sensor-based apps useful for ocean or mountain settings.

In technicality, the TORQUE G02 is expected to sport a dated but still decent Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, it has 16GB built-in storage expandable via MicroSD card, a 4.7-inch IGZO HD display, a 13-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front camera, and a decently huge 2910mAh battery. Surprisingly, the phone sports WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE connectivity and gets Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, which is pretty rare for mid-range rugged devices.

If you ever want to get it as your diving partner, the Kyocera TORQUE G02 is sadly on available for the Japanese market and exclusive to KDDI, release dates are still unknown but we can assume Kyocera to release this phone in the next quarter. If you happen to be in Japan, you could probably keep tabs on this device when the time comes.
