Google hasn’t been selfish or exclusive when it comes to its flexibility of products and software. Android Wear smartwatches are not only compatible with Android phones, but developers have made the effort to make them match well with iPhones of the past. Unfortunately, this doesn’t happen to be the case with the newly launched iPhone 7.
A number of iPhone 7 users have brought their complains to the world wide web, claiming that their Android Wear smartwatches were not able to pair with their iOS operated iPhone 7’s after upgrading from an older iPhone. The good news is Google has acknowledged the issue, and has claimed that it applies to the Moto 360 2nd Gen, both generations of the ASUS ZenWatch, Fossil, Michael Kors and Tag Heuer smartwatches.
It is unsure as to whether the problem lies within iOS 10, but the Android wearbles have had no problems pairing with iOS 10 on the older iPhones such as the iPhone 6 and 6S. The issue only appears to occur with the iPhone 7. Here are a few claims made by affected users:
I’ve got a TAG Heuer Connected that was working fine with my iPhone 6 even after I upgraded to iOS 10, but then since I unpaired to connect to my new iPhone 7 I haven’t been able to pass the pairing screen. I’ve tried with both phones, even tried to after downgrading the iPhone 6 to 9.3. I’ve also tried to a factory reset through the ‘Android dead robot’ as advised by TAG, but didn’t help, none of the phones get the code from the watch. Thanks!
Just wanted to let you guys know I’m facing the same issue. Can’t get my Moto360 2nd gen to pair with my iPhone7 (iPhone 6 and 6s with iOS10 was no problem). My iPhone7 sees my Moto360 2nd in the Android Wear App and in the bluetooth list when trying to pair but I never get the “accept message” on my Wear App when trying to pair so the pairing keeps failing.
Google is said to have reported this issue to Apple after some investigation. It looks like you’re better off pairing your Android smartwatch to an Android smartphone. Let us know your thoughts at the comments section below!
