Instagram’s ‘Reels’ is a TikTok-like feature launched in Brazil

Instagram’s new feature, Reels, lets users make 15-second videos that can be edited and paired with music to be shared as Stories. Sound familiar? We think so too.

Reels is pretty similar to the famous app TikTok that is going viral in many countries. This feature allows you to add music to your videos, adjust the speed of your videos and also other editing tools. However, TechCrunch reported that Reels is still missing some video filters and special effects that is accessible in TikTok.

Currently, Instagram only offers the feature in Brazil — a country that hasn’t been completely preoccupied by TikTok yet. If the feature is well-received, it could be possible that Instagram will make the feature available to the rest of the world. Reels may also appeal to those who like to make short, fun videos but only want to share it with their close friends since Instagram has something TikTok doesn’t — Close Friend list.

This isn’t the first time Instagram is “inspired” by others; Instagram copied Snapchat’s popular Stories feature a few years back and now almost all users are using it.
