It is reported that Indonesia has finally lifted its ban on Tumblr after the company has globally announced to get rid of pornographic content on its platform.

On March 2018, the Indonesia Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) has banned Tumblr in the country as it has failed to comply with its strict anti-pornography rules.

According to Acting Head of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Bureau Ferdinandus Setu, said in a press release, “Tumblr sent an official statement regarding the commitment to clean the platform from pornographic content”.

The Directorate of Informatics Application Control at Kominfo has verified Tumblr’s letter and confirmed that Tumblr has changed its policy on pornographic content on its platform.

Indonesia is well known for their tough anti-pornography laws and it was reported that before blocking Tumblr officially, the ministry had sent a warning letter to the company on 25 February 2018, but as Tumblr has failed to respond during that time, they decided to proceed with blocking the site in March.

Video sharing site such as Vimeo and content aggregator and forum, Reddit, is also banned in Indonesia due to having adult content in its platform.

Now, Tumblr has blocked all types of adult content that are explicitly displayed, including photos, videos and GIF images, and it hosts 447 million personal blogs from around the globe.
