We are still two weeks away from the unveiling of the Huawei Mate 10, and Huawei is expected to unveil one important feature of its new smartphone in its IFA press conference tomorrow – the Kirin 970 SoC. As the media invite teases with a tagline ‘Expect The Unexpected’ with a #HUAWEIMOBILEAI, the company seems to be serious about integrating artificial intelligence learning into its new mobile processor, it will feature a 10nm manufacturing process and sports 5.5 billion transistors, 8 CPU cores, 12 GPU cores and a dual ISP, reports have also claimed that the chip will be 25 times faster than a normal CPU core and 50 times more efficient.
The Kirin SoC has always been one of our favorite chips due to its great performance and power efficiency, while the current Kirin 960 hasn’t really been impressive with power efficiency, it performs better than the Snapdragon 821 processor in our tests. In the case of the Kirin 970, Huawei’s AI learning is definitely an exciting feature, as we can expect the hardware to optimize performance automatically based on user behavior, such as preloading frequently used apps, it is a technology similar AMD’s SenseMI. Huawei has already built machine learning on its EMUI software for such purpose, and moving on to a hardware optimization level is certainly a way to go.
While we might not expect any new smartphones from Huawei’s IFA event tomorrow, we do however assume that Huawei might bring some new tablets to the table.
