Huawei has held an event in China today, announcing a new mid range smartphone with a dual rear camera configuration. Last year’s Honor 5X gets its 2016 refresh, maintaining its premium build and look while getting its internals upgraded. After weeks of rumors surrounding the handset, the Honor 6X has finally been announced today.
For starters, the display size and resolution of the Honor 5X has been retained with the Honor 6X, sporting a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved glass display at Full HD 1080p resolution. 2015’s Honor 5X featured a newer version of the Snapdragon 615 processor, known as the Snapdragon 616. This time round, the Honor 6X is fitted with Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 655 SoC. Along with that are memory options of 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage respectively. Storage can be further expanded for an extra 128GB via the micro SD card slot.
The biggest upgrade by far lies in the camera department. Huawei has implemented dual rear camera setups in the P9 and the previously launched Honor 8 this year, hence the Honor 6X is no exception. The new mid ranger sports a dual rear camera configuration of 12MP + 2MP sensors, which isn’t mindblowing but we hope it doesn’t disappoint. The selfie camera on the front is of 8MP.
The Honor 6X now has a faster rear fingerprint sensor that unlocks in 0.3 seconds, a step up from the Honor 5X’s 0.5 second fingerprint unlock. Last but not least, the handset packs a 3,340 mAh battery underneath the hood and supports fast charging. The lower end variant (3GB RAM/32GB storage) of the Honor 6X comes at a price tag of 999 CNY (RM621.75) while the higher end model (4GB RAM/64GB storage) will cost 1,599 CNY (RM995.17). The phone is currently available on sale in China and it is expected to arrive to Malaysian shores in the near future.
