YouTube is getting an update that will add picture-in-picture mode which was previously only available from a YouTube Premium subscription. However, there are some limitations to this feature, not allowing some of you to use this feature.

Currently, it is only available in the US for now but there are some reports that stated it will be coming to other regions soon. The other problem is that you will need an Android Oreo device and only 5.7% of Android devices are running on Oreo. People did not understand why such a feature was only available on the Premium subscription which we agree, it did not make sense. Picture-in-picture, for those of you that don’t know, will allow you to minimize an app to a small window on your phone which then allows you to run another app while the window of the previous app floats on the screen. When the feature arrives here, you will be able to activate this feature by heading to the Settings section of the YouTube app. Once activated, if you press the home button when watching a video, it will appear at the top of other apps.

XDA Developers where the first ones to spot this feature but they also mentioned that it is up to the video creator to allow this feature for their videos, as the way some videos are shot might not be ideal for picture-in-picture mode.
