With the reveal that the Nokia smartphones and the LG G6 getting access to Google Assistant right out of the box, surely it is only a matter of time until every other Android-powered smartphone right? Well, ask and ye shall receive as Google has officially confirmed that Google Assistant will be coming to eligible smartphones that are currently running either Android Nougat or Android Marshmallow.

Google’s new A.I. assistant will be coming to smartphones by way of an OTA update via Google Play Services within the coming weeks. Before you get too excited though, do note that Google plans to rollout the update in stages. For the first stage, Google aims to roll out Google Assistant to English users in the U.S., Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. Once the update has been rolled out to these countries, Google will then rollout Google Assistant to Germany, complete with German support. If you do not live in any of the countries above, Google Assistant will presumably be rolled out at a later date.

Once your smartphone receives the Google Assistant update though, you can expect this system to replace the current “OK Google” system on your smartphone. One thing to note about this update is that Google has stated that Google Assistant will be made available to eligible smartphones. This may mean that Google Assistant will not be coming to all smartphones that are running Marshmallow or Nougat.
