Twitter’s announcement that they would be discontinuing the Vine app didn’t really go over well with its userbase. Although the company has mentioned that the Vine website will remain available will all videos being archived on the site, many are skeptical over whether or not Twitter would live up to their word. To that end, GIPHY is extending an olive branch to the Vine users, as they have announced that GIPHY ❤ Vine has gone live.
In essence, GIPHY ❤ Vine will allow Vine users to transfer and safe their Vine videos into GIFs instead. A user must first sign up for a GIPHY ❤ Vine account. Once done, they’ll be able to link their Vine account to the website. Each GIPHY ❤ Vine account is permitted to one Vine account import, so for those who have multiple Vine accounts, they’ll need to talk to the GIPHY staff difrectly. Once the account is linked, GIPHY would begin the process of transferring and converting the Vine videos, sound and all, into GIFs. These GIFs would then be archived in the user’s GIF channel, and the service will send out an email notification when the user’s entire Vine library is imported.
If you’re one of the few who has a substantial amount of Vine videos that you would like to have access to, you should probably take GIPHY up on its offer as a precautionary measure.
