GIGABYTE may not be all about motherboards and graphics card, just so you know, the company also manufactures PC peripherals such as keyboards, mouse, speakers and etc. If you are the tech enthusiast, you would also know that the company manufactures everything related to the e-Sports, but not quite so for this thing that we have over here this time. The GIGABYTE AIRE M93 ICE is a wireless rechargeable mouse which GIGABYTE claims that will work on any surfaces as in wood, cloth, marble (smooth stone on the package), glass and leather, it even mentions in the description that the mouse will also work on ice – yes, the freezing cold cube.

Ergonomics and Comfort at its best, Easy to Use Software

The mouse’s design looks very much like a gaming mouse with its ergonomic design and clearly made for right hand users, however it still feels great when I tried using the mouse with my left hand. The buttons have a tactile and solid feel and I like the smooth four way directional tilt wheel or scroll wheel, the 4 and 5 programmable keys have a good placement where my thumb can press on them comfortably. If you look closer again at the design, the company has thought well on designing the left and right buttons as they fit the same length as my index and middle finger.

The AIRE M93 is powered by a single AA battery and connects through a Nano receiver, GIGABYTE has provided a rechargeable one in the package which we are happy with that, the great thing about it is that you are able to recharge the battery by using the included MicroUSB cable and there will be no more worries about dead battery half way using the device,

simply connect the MicroUSB cable to the mouse and the other end to your computer’s USB port then your mouse will be alive again.

We were actually quite confused on what the what the free scroll and tilt button do and after a few tests we managed to figure what the company is trying to do here. Simply put, it is an alternative to the scroll wheel and you just need to hold on and move the mouse, then pages will scroll as if you are using the scroll button.

GIGABYTE has made its mouse utility software fairly simple for users, you are able to configure actions for every buttons and tilt actions on the scroll wheel, scrolling and pointer speed, there are no fancy features here so you won’t be having any issues on it.

The Surface Test

We were skeptical about the mouse’s ability to work on any surface with GIGABYTE’s ICE technology, therefore we tested on wood, glass, cloth and marble to find out if it really works, we didn’t test on leather and ice as we find it impractical to do so and most users won’t be using the mouse on those surfaces. The AIRE M93 ICE works great when we tested on a wood table and on top of a table cloth, however the mouse isn’t fully compatible with some marble design and simply unusable on a totally transparent glass table. Therefore, we have to conclude that the AIRE M93 ICE is still a mouse that works on limited surfaces.

Verdict

Despite of its surface usage limitations, the GIGABYTE AIRE M93 ICE mouse has a well thought out design in both ergonomics and functionality, users will never have to run out of power again in a wireless mouse.

The Good:

+ Great ergonomics

+ Superb laser precision

+ Very customizable software

+ Free scroll and tilt button is simply another creative way of scrolling content

+ Charges via a MicroUSB port

The Not so Good:

– Doesn’t work on all surfaces as advertised

– Limited DPI switches

– Mouse surface can get scratched easily

We rate the GIGABYTE AIRE M93 ICE mouse at 4 out of 5 stars.
