Chinese tech site BenchLife has leaked some Intel slides, and said slides reveals that the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors will be coming to the market in the second half of 2017.
As the slides indicate, the Kaby Lake-X will be the lesser of the two leaked processors. For starters, the Kaby Lake-X processor will come with only four CPU cores and eight threads. It will have a max level 3 cache of 8MB and is stated to have a thermal design power (TDP) of 112W.
For the Skylake-X, the processor itself will be taking a page out of Broadwell-E in that it will be available in six cores, eight cores, and ten cores SKU versions. The Skylake-X will have a maximum of ten threads, a max level 3 cache of 25MB, and a TDP of 140W.
Most importantly however is the sockets. Both the Skylake-X and the Kaby Lake-X will be based on the LGA 2066 CPU socket, which is the Basin Falls-X platform. This particular board will have 55 more pins compared to its predecessor, the LGA 2011 socket. Speaking of LGA 2066, BenchLife has mentioned that Intel intends to replace it with LGA 2076 in 2020, with the final chip available for Basin Falls-X to be Cannonlake-X.
While the leaked slides paints an interesting picture for Intel’s near future plans, none of these plans have been confirmed by Intel itself. Therefore, take this info with a grain of salt, as Intel may decide to change up their plans at any time.
