The sun is setting on Dell’s line of Venue Android Tablets as The Verge is reporting that Dell is planning to discontinue the Venue tablets and will cease issuing OS updates to the tablets as well.
If you’re one of the few that owns a Venue tablet, rest assured that Dell will continue to honour active warranties and service contracts. That said, as mentioned earlier, the company will no longer be actively supporting device. This means that your tablet will no longer be receiving any updates from Dell from this point forward. “The slate tablet market is oversaturated and is experiencing declining demand from consumers, so we’ve decided to discontinue the Android-based Venue tablet line,” says a Dell spokesman.
With Dell no longer interested in the Android tablet market, the company is shifting its perspective to the 2-in-1 market. In a blogpost authored by Dell’s VP of commercial client solutions Kirk Schell, Schell believes that “2-in-1s with larger screens in the 10 to 13-inch range are offering a laptop-first experience with the convenience of a tablet when needed.” “This is where our customers are asking us to invest and innovate,” he added.
