A month back, we were all lucky enough to be graced by Maxis’ introduction of their eSIM support – making them the first telco in the country to do so. Maxis are widely regarded as the number one telco in the country with decent bandwidth speeds, wide coverage, and reliable networks.
Not to be outdone, Celcom – which many also regard as a strong competitor to Maxis – are now also offering eSIM support. Like Maxis, eSIM plans will only be available for iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, due to the fact that these are the only smartphones in Malaysia to have eSIM support.
As a refresher, eSIMs are built-in chips that forego the need for a physical card – you simply head to your telco store where your eSIM can be activated digitally via scanning a QR code
You can currently load your eSIM with these Xpax Postpaid 50, Celcom plans: Gold 20GB, Gold Plus 40GB, Gold Supreme 50GB, Platinum 60GB and Platinum Plus 1000GB.
To apply for Celcom’s eSIM plans, you need to head to a Celcom Bluecube outlet – new customers and existing customers of over a year are not required to pay for the activation; customers of less than one year will have to pay a RM5 activation or replacement fee.
According to Celcom, every change of device will require a new QR code, so it’s advised that for folks who use switch phones on a regular basis to keep their physical SIM card in hand for convenience.
