Bluetooth Special Interest Group has just announced Bluetooth 5, after teasing it for quite some time, along with some emerging rumors. Bluetooth 5 technology is said to be arriving some time later this year to early 2017.
Bluetooth 5 will be playing a huge role to further enhance the Internet of Things (IoT) and is said to transform the way people experience IoT. According to the press release by Bluetooth SIG:
“Bluetooth 5, projected for release in late 2016 to early 2017, will quadruple range and double speed of low energy connections while increasing the capacity of connectionless data broadcasts by 800 percent.”
The company’s executive director, Mark Powell stated that with such ability, Bluetooth 5 will make beacons, location awareness, and other connectionless services more relevant to the world we live in with IoT. The previous Bluetooth version, Bluetooth 4.2, was introduced back in December 2014. As the IoT market grows, it’s probably time for Bluetooth 5 to make its way to redefine the seamless IoT experience.
