Barnes & Noble, the largest retail bookseller in the United States, has launched yet another NOOK tablet which seems to rival Amazon’s Fire 7 tablet, despite recent claims of the company shutting down its NOOK based digital offerings. THe NOOK Tablet 7 might be the retailer’s attempt to revive its NOOK efforts, though NOOK has been struggling each quarter financially. Regardless, let’s take a look at what the NOOK Tablet 7 offers.
As it is a low cost tablet, we shouldn’t expect a lot from Barnes & Noble, and hopefully not complain at all. The NOOK Tablet 7, as its name states, sports a 7-inch IPS screen at 1024 x 600 resolution. Underneath the hood lies an unspecified quad core chipset and an undisclosed amount of RAM, which isn’t much of a surprise. Onboard storage is 8GB, which can be expanded up to a further 128GB via the micro SD card slot.
The NOOK Tablet 7 has a 5MP rear camera with auto focus and a 2MP front facing shooter, sufficient enough for video calling. The battery capacity of the tablet wasn’t specified, but the company claims it to offer up to 7 hours of reading, video watching and web browsing. The NOOK Tablet 7 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, with a slew of B&N and NOOK apps pre-installed for access to the Barnes & Noble store, e-books and digital content such as newspapers and magazines from your fingertips.
The NOOK Tablet 7 as mentioned earlier, is a low cost tablet, and it carries a price tag of $49.99 (RM218.21), so neither of us should complain about what the tablet offers. The similarly priced Amazon Fire 7, will have its price slashed further on Black Friday to an even more fierce $33.33 (RM145.49). How successful will Barnes & Noble’s latest NOOK tablet turn out to be?
