The ASUS Zenfone family of smartphones are pretty impressive in both pricing and performance, the Zenfone 5 that we reviewed a couple of months back has impressed us a lot as well. Of course, the company isn’t resting its laurels on waiting other manufacturers to catch up and have continued to update its Zenfone variants, one of the updated variants have finally reached our labs, meet the ASUS Zenfone 4 A450CG, this updated entry-level smartphone now has a larger 4.5-inch display, an 8 Megapixel Pixelmaster camera and a slightly larger 1750mAh battery.

A good phone that gets even better

We had a great impression with the original Zenfone 4 though we haven’t had a chance to review it, the refreshed Zenfone 4 is much more better now with a larger 4.5-inch display, display resolution maintains the same at 854×480 pixels which is still fine for such a display size. As you can see in the picture above, the screen brightness has been maxed out and visibility is pretty poor outdoors.

The phone maintains the very same hardware internals such – powered by an Intel Atom Z2520 1.2GHz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory with MicroSD expansion. Back on the original Zenfone 4, its battery was removable and at an extremely low 1200mAh, the updated model now has its battery fixed on to the device and a major increase to an additional 550mAh capacity, it is also still a dual SIM capable device.

Similar to the Zenfone 5, this entry-level sibling has a really solid build material that feels good on hand, the increased screen size has provided a better grip for bigger hands, the back maintains the same rough plastic material which hides away finger prints brilliantly especially with the white color model.

Probably the best upgrade of all is the main camera optics, which has been upgraded to a similar resolution found on the Zenfone 5. With its updated camera resolution, the new Zenfone 4 would have one of the best cameras in the entry-level smartphone segment while supporting ASUS’s PixelMaster low light photography technology, which is absent on the original Zenfone 4. Check out the shots that we’ve taken down below and comparison with the Zenfone 5’s camera.
