The Vivobook 13 Slate OLED has finally arrived at Malaysian shores and it is ASUS’ direct answer to the Microsoft Surface Go 3.
Unveiled alongside the new Vivobook OLED series a few months ago, the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a detachable 2-in-1 tablet that sports a stunning 13.3-inch OLED display, a first in its class that takes on more expensive devices and complemented by Dolby Atmos quad speakers, ASUS is going as far as selling this as a personal OLED TV.
However, don’t expect this to be a top performer though, as it is powered by an Intel Pentium Silver N6000 quad-core processor assisted by 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of PCIe storage, this should probably do fine if you are merely treating this as a casual productivity device but shouldn’t be pushed too hard.
In paper specs, the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED should do better than the top spec Surface Go 3’s Core i3-10100Y processor.
Similar to other detachable 2-in-1 tablets, the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED comes with a rather nice magnetically attached keyboard cover that doesn’t need to be purchased separately, an ASUS Pen 2.0 pressure sensitive stylus is also included in the box that supports up to 4096 of pressure levels and a 266Hz sampling rate, creative users are also offered tips that mimics 2H, H and HB pencils.
The tablet uses a separate back cover as a kickstand rather than having one built right onto its chassis, which is a rather odd decision as they can wear out during the ownership and you might need to replace when the time comes, but it is a pretty robust when I tried it out during the media experience.
With a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera, the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a killer video conferencing machine with 1080p video and you shouldn’t have too much issues using it to scan documents and some casual photos at your work place, this is one thing that laptops of the same price range don’t offer.
In terms of ports, you get two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports that supports PD charging and display output, a microSD card slot for storage expansion and thankfully, a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is pretty limited just like any detachable tablets we have seen but its quite understandable considering its slim 7.9mm body, the tablet weighs 789g so there shouldn’t be any issue transporting around.
The Vivobook 13 Slate OLED can now be purchased in Malaysia for RM3,499. For a limited time till 14th February, customers will receive a free ASUS WT425 mouse and RM200 Touch n Go eWallet reload PIN as part of the launch promotion, head here to purchase one.
