It’s been a while since we have heard rumors of Apple working on its own augmented/virtual reality headset, as the company has been spearheading efforts in AR on iPhone and iPad for a while now, and we can definitely expect that to happen soon enough as recent App Store upload logs and Apple open-source code has revealed that its headset operating system will be called ‘realityOS’.
As more companies got involved in the Metaverse recently, it would be great timing that Apple begins to show how it can contribute to that effort to make it even more relevant for most of us, just like how it has always trump competitors.

According to the logs, realityOS is expected to work with other Apple devices and it would be interesting to see how Apple can make all of its devices work together with its headset, and just like tvOS and watchOS, realityOS is also expected to come with its own version of App Store that serves dedicated AR/VR apps, perhaps what we are even more interested here is how Apple can make it services available on realityOS.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the AR/VR headset will be powered by two Apple silicon chips that enables Mac-level computing power, and also allowing the headset to switch between augmented and virtual reality modes.
As Apple is about to have its March event coming right up, we definitely hope to see this as a ‘one more thing’ announcement and its about time that Apple shake up the Metaverse just like it has done with the iPhones.
