Apple has today announced during their virtual event the all-new Apple Watch Series 6 which now boasts new colours, an improved strap, and new health tracking features.
In terms of design, the Series 6 looks familiar to its predecessor; while the only noticeable difference is in the strap – Apple calls it the Solo Loop band which is essentially a single, continuous strap that stretches to fit the wrist size. There are also other sizes to fit different people. This time around, the watch frame comes in new colours, one of which is the Product Red.
Under the hood is an S6 chipset that’s built based on the iPhone 11’s A13 Bionic chip, but optimized to work on the smartwatch. In terms of features, you get the all-new blood oxygen level scanner which uses an infrared sensor at the bottom of the watch to detect your SPO2 levels.
The watch runs on watchOS 7 and it comes with sleep tracking, an always-on-display, new featured workouts, and more watch faces. One watch face actually uses your Memoji and it reacts to your touches!
Apple Watch SE
Possibly even more exciting than the Series 6, is the announcement of the more affordable Apple Watch SE – this comes in a cellular variant too!
It comes with a familiar design as the Series 6 but with less features – it does have your usual fitness tracker modes, navigation features, and even motion sensors so you can use fall detection as well.
All this is made possible with the S5 chip, the same processor you’ll find on the Series 5 watch.
Both watches support Family Setup to help parents keep track of their kids wearing the devices, as well as help children track fitness levels or stay focused in school with School Time mode.
It needs to be noted that the Apple Watch won’t ship with a USB power adapter to cut down on carbon pollution.
The Apple Watch Series 6 starts at RM2,199 for both the cellular only and cellular+GPS models; while the Apple Watch SE is priced from RM1,199 for he GPS only model, and RM1,499 for the GPS+cellular variant. Visit Apple’s website here to learn more.
