Apple acquires education tech startup

Apple has again acquired another tech startup. However, unlike their previous acquisations, this tech startup is focused more on the education side of things.

Based on a report by Bloomberg, Apple has acquired LearnSprout, a tech startup that develops software for schools and teachers to track students’ performance. According to LearnSprout’s website, the company’s software is currently being used in more than 2,500 school districts in 42 U.S. states.

Seeing as Apple is allegedly working on education tools for the iPad that will allow students to see interactive lessons, track their progress, and share tablet computers with peers, Apple’s acquisition of LearnSprout wouldn’t come as a big surprise. Of course, it is entirely possible that Apple’s acquisition of the edu-tech startup will be related to iTunes U, iBooks, or something entirely new. As neither party has said anything about the acquisition thus far, Apple’s plans with LearnSprout is all speculation at this point.
