Google’s next version of its wearables platform, Android Wear 2.0, has entered the Beta stage with the release of the second Developer Preview. This new update pack comes with the standard bug fixes, as well as new features to the Android Wear 2.0.
Chief among these new features is the ability for third-party developers to implement gestures to their own apps. Starting from Developer Preview 2, Android developers will gain access to wrist gestures that were previously reserved for scrolling through the notification stream.
Apart from third-party gesture support, the latest version of Android Wear 2.0 has also added a bunch of design elements, such as drawer peaking, automatic peek view, and navigation drawer closure. Developers will also be able to make custom wearable drawers.
Finally, the Android Platform API for Android Watch 2.0 has been updated to level 24, which is the same as Android 7.0 Nougat.
If you’re interested in testing out the Android Wear 2.0 Developer Preview, do note that it can only be installed on the Huawei Watch and the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edtion LTE. If you do not own either of those watches, you’re going to have to wait until Android Wear 2.0 goes live.
