AMD’s comeback to the desktop processor market has continued to gained momentum, as the company has finally launched the entry-level Ryzen 3 processor with two models – the 1300X and 1200 -, these processors are currently on their way to Malaysian shores and are confirmed to be priced below RM600. The AMD Ryzen 3 competes directly with Intel’s Core i3 processor, it is based on the very same “Zen” architecture like its higher end Ryzen 5 and 7 siblings, these entry-level processors come with an efficient 65W TDP and 14nm process, they also sport 4-cores and 4-threads, which performs much better than Intel’s Core i3 with only 2 processing cores.

The Ryzen 1300X offers a base clock speed of 3.5GHz and a maximum turbo clock speed at 3.7GHZ, while the Ryzen 1200 has a lower 3.1GHz base clock speed and maxes out at 3.4GHz. Like other Ryzen processors, the Ryzen 3 processors have their multipliers unlocked for overclocking for the ultimate performance, and if you intend to run VR applications, these entry-level processors are already capable of doing so. Furthermore, the Ryzen 3 is compatible with the X370, B350 and A320 chipset, so you do have a few choices of motherboards to choose depending on your requirements.
The Ryzen 3 processors will come bundled with AMD’s Wraith Stealth CPU cooler out of the box, it uses a screw in mechanism instead of the clip system used in past AMD processors, making installation a breeze even for PC builders. As for the price, the AMD Ryzen 1300X will retail at RM599 and the Ryzen 1200 will retail at RM519, do check with your nearby PC retailers for the processor’s ETA, we’ll be sure to update if there’s any more news.
