Adobe to rename Flash Professional as Animate CC

It seems the sun is truly setting on Flash as Adobe has began distancing itself from the aging multimedia platform, beginning with the renaming of the company’s own Flash Professional software.

First introduced to the general public by Macromedia as Macromedia Flash, Flash has slowly been replaced by newer formats such as HTML5 and WebGL.

According to Adobe, a third of the content created using Flash Professional uses HTML5.

To reflect this change, Adobe will be renaming future releases of Flash Professional as Animate CC, with the first release scheduled for a early 2016 release. While the name of the software may change, Flash will still be supported for the foreseeable future.

Animate CC is expected to ship with a slew of new features such as new vector-based brushes and a rotatable canvas. Furthermore, Animate CC will feature CreativeSync integration, allowing the software to work with Adobe Stock and creative cloud libraries.
