The Samsung Galaxy S8 won’t be making an appearance at MWC this year, but is slated to be a big hit even if it launches on its own outside the annual Barcelona tech trade show. A report suggests that Samsung will be making 16 million Galaxy S8’s to be sold in the first quarter of the year, judging on the number of AMOLED panels that Samsung has ordered.

The report by Korean news outlet The Bell has apparently tracked a shipment of 16 million AMOLED panels headed to manufacturing giant Samsung, said to be for the upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship handset. 16 million units of the Galaxy S8 will be 40 percent more than the 12 million units of Galaxy S7 devices around the same time last year. With that forecast, Samsung is expected to ship a whopping number of 55 million units of the Galaxy S8 in 2017 alone.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been rumored to sport a large 5.8-inch display while the Galaxy S8+ variant is said to feature an even larger screen measuring at 6.2-inches. The latest rumor suggests that the regular S8 will already place itself in phablet category, but do take the claim with a pinch of salt. Given the success and the initial success of the Galaxy S7 series and the Galaxy Note 7 respectively, the Galaxy S8 series might turn out to be Samsung’s best selling phone yet.
