The AI PC race is about to enter a completely new phase.

While the industry has spent the last year talking about Copilot+ PCs, NPUs and on-device AI, NVIDIA and Microsoft believe the future of personal computing goes far beyond AI assistants. Their latest collaboration introduces RTX Spark, a new Windows PC platform designed specifically for personal AI agents that can work alongside users, automate tasks and understand context directly on the device.

In short, NVIDIA wants your next PC to become less of a tool and more of a digital teammate.

RTX Spark Is NVIDIA’s Biggest PC Move Yet

For years, NVIDIA has dominated gaming GPUs and AI accelerators, but RTX Spark represents something much bigger.

The new platform combines CPU, GPU and memory into a single architecture built around AI workloads, allowing users to run powerful AI models and intelligent agents locally without constantly relying on cloud services. NVIDIA claims RTX Spark can deliver up to one petaflop of AI performance while supporting up to 128GB of unified memory, making it one of the most powerful AI-focused PC platforms ever introduced.

The company is also calling RTX Spark its most efficient PC chip ever built, targeting premium thin-and-light laptops, creator machines and AI workstations.

More Than Just AI — Gamers and Creators Benefit Too

Although AI is the headline feature, RTX Spark is also designed for traditional PC workloads.

NVIDIA says RTX Spark-powered systems can deliver graphics performance comparable to an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU while maintaining the power efficiency expected from modern thin-and-light devices. The platform is also designed to accelerate video editing, 3D rendering, content creation and gaming workloads.

For creators, the combination of powerful AI processing and large unified memory could make local generative AI tools significantly faster and more practical. For gamers, RTX technologies such as DLSS and AI-enhanced rendering are expected to play a major role in future RTX Spark devices.

Surface Laptop Ultra Leads the First Wave

Microsoft will be among the first companies to showcase the new platform through the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra.

According to Microsoft, the device will be the most powerful Surface laptop ever created, powered by RTX Spark and capable of delivering up to one petaflop of AI compute performance. The laptop is expected to feature up to 20 CPU cores, 6,144 GPU cores and configurations with up to 128GB of unified memory.

Beyond Microsoft, NVIDIA confirmed that major PC brands including ASUS, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI are already preparing devices based on the RTX Spark platform.

Why This Matters

For the first time in decades, the PC industry is being forced to rethink what a computer actually does.

Apple transformed laptops through efficiency-focused silicon. Qualcomm introduced the first wave of AI PCs. Now NVIDIA wants to redefine the PC again around agentic AI.

If RTX Spark succeeds, future laptops may no longer be judged solely by CPU speed, battery life or GPU performance. Instead, the ability to run powerful AI agents locally could become the next major battleground in personal computing.

And with Microsoft fully onboard, RTX Spark could become one of the most important Windows platform shifts since the arrival of Copilot+ PCs.

Availability

The first wave of RTX Spark-powered Windows PCs is expected to arrive later this year, led by Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra and followed by devices from ASUS, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI. Additional models targeting broader market segments are expected to launch in the months that follow.
