Samsung has today launched two new imaging sensors in the ISOCELL HP1 and the ISOCELL GN5.

The former is a whopping 200MP sensor; it uses the new ChameleonCell technology – a pixel-binning tech that uses a two-by-two, four-by-four, or full pixel layout. This basically means it allows the sensor to offer larger pixels by shooting at 12.5MP in low-light situations.

When it comes to videography, the HP1 can shoot 8K videos at 30FPS, and even pixel-bin to 50MP and still be able to shoot in 8K without sacrificing light sensitivity.

The ISOCELL GN5 is a 50MP sensor that uses the Dual Pixel Pro all-directional autofocusing technology that allows for better focusing abilities. Samsung explains that it does so by placing one million phase-detecting photodiodes in the sensor.

The ISOCELL HP1 and GN 5 are currently only available as samples, but with reports suggesting that one of the Xiaomi 12 flagships will support 200MP photography, we can expect the brand to use Samsung’s ISOCELL GN1; this could then mean that we can see the sensor’s debut before the end of the year.
