You may have heard of news of Facebook’s lapse in securing user passwords – allowing them to appear in plain text and accessible to Facebook employees to read. The issue has since been fixed but the kerfuffle raised was a wakeup call to netizens of the vulnerabilities of their online presence.

In light of this, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has urged the public to change their Facebook and Instagram passwords if instructed to do so within the apps or websites.

Compromised accounts are, of course, in danger of impersonations, frauds and phishing.

By updating your passwords, you could prevent anyone with access to the existing list of details from taking advantage of your accounts. The MCMC are working closely with Facebook to monitor the issue further.
