BMW teases self-driving luxury car for 2021

BMW, much like many other car companies, have been hard at work trying to develop a self-driving car. In a shareholder meeting, BMW CEO Harald Krueger has revealed some very interesting info as he says that BMW will be launching an autonomous car in 2021.

Called the i Next, this self-driving car will be based on the new BMW i8. No solid info was given as to what to expect from BMW’s i Next, but Krueger has stated that the company’s first self-driving car will feature autonomous driving, digital connectivity, intelligent lightweight design, and a totally new interior. Before we get to the i Next though, BMW will be releasing the i8 Roadster in 2018.

With the reveal that BMW’s self-driving car will be called the i Next, it’ll be interesting to see how similar the upcoming car will be when compared to the Vision Next 100 concept vehicle which was revealed last year. Also, seeing as how BMW has announced its intentions to release a self-driving car in five years time, it’ll be interesting to see if other car manufacturers can beat the clock and release their own autonomous vehicle before the year 2020.
