No mention of virtual reality is complete without touching on the mobile side of things. That is what happened at the Oculus Connect today as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg went on stage today to tease attendees about its upcoming entry into the mobile VR market.

Oculus is no stranger to the mobile VR market of course, as the company was reponsible for Samsung’s GearVR. However, this new VR unit that was demonstrated on stage is far more advanced than the GearVR. The key feature of this new headset comes is positional tracking. Currently only available on high end VR headsets like the Rift and the Vive, positional tracking would allow the headset to track the wearer’s position, allowing it to adjust the onscreen content accordingly, making the wearer feel like he’s navigating through an actual space.
Zuckerberg did mention that this prototype headset is still in its early development stages, so it is unlikely that we will hear anything more about it until next year. Interestingly enough, Zuckerberg also mentioned that the device would be affordable. Just how “affordable” this headset would be remains to be seen.
