Xperia Z2 and Z3 finally receives Android Marshmallow

Sony is late to the Android game yet again, but better late than never. Android Marshmallow has finally arrived to Sony’s older flagship lineup, namely the Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact. The firmware with the build number 23.5.A.0.570, turns out to be the same one as the previous beta release for these devices. Hence, if you’re running the latest beta version of Android Marshmallow on any of the devices mentioned, chances are you’re already on the official release of Android Marshmallow for them.

As usual, the arrival of Marshmallow comes with a couple of new features that were announced with it, including Google Now on Tap and Doze. The update also includes a new 2.0.0 version of Sony’s own Camera app. With Doze introduced, the update sees the removal of the Xperia-exclusive STAMINA mode, which probably isn’t required any longer. The update will be released to all variants in a timely manner, starting off with those in the beta programme.

The firmware update is also available for download for those who can’t wait to get their hands of Marshmallow instead of waiting for the OTA update. Further details regarding the update are available on Xperia Blog.
