Rumors of Xiaomi roping Samsung in for the production of its smartphone displays have emerged since before last year, where multiple sources claim Samsung’s involvement with the Mi 5 on its display. But it turns out that the collaboration hasn’t taken place just yet, even with the Mi 6 that was launched earlier this year. But a post on Chinese micro blogging site Weibo claims that the partnership will finally happen with the upcoming Mi 7 in 2018.
It is said that Xiaomi is finally signing a contract together with Samsung to produce displays for the former company’s 2018 flagship – the Mi 7. Samsung has been tipped to make 6-inch OLED displays for the Mi 7. This might be too early to confirm, but chances are that Xiaomi will either go with Samsung or LG, both of which are known for making OLED panels for smartphones.
On top of that, the Mi 7 is also rumored to be powered by a yet to be released Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which definitely doesn’t come as a surprise to most of us, considering the fact that the company’s past flagships feature the same flagship processors as the rest of the competition. The Snapdragon 845 is said to be built on Samsung’s tiny 7nm process, and the chipset will also power the company’s Galaxy S9 flagship next year.
As always, do take news like this with a huge grain of salt to avoid future disappointment. Will the Xiaomi Mi 7 be more expensive with a Samsung display?
