Xiaomi planning to launch Mi Talk, a competitor to Clubhouse

Everyone and their aunts know what Clubhouse is at this point – an invite-only voice messaging/chatting app that’s currently only available on iOS devices. It’s so popular now that even the likes of Xiaomi is planning to launch their own take on the app.

The brand is reviving the recently defunct Mi Talk messaging app and repurposing it to function like Clubhouse – except it’ll also be available for Android devices!

CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo to say that the new Mi Talk app will be aimed at professionals, but he didn’t say if the app will strictly limited to said professionals.

Like Clubhouse, Mi Talk will also be invite-only, and old Mi Talk accounts won’t be transferred over – to get in, Xiaomi will select a small number of users to try out the beta. Later on, more users can register an account and wait to receive an invitation.

The app is currently still in development, and will be available on both Android and iOS devices.
