Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro’s in-display fingerprint sensor has a pressure sensitive feature

In-display fingerprint sensors are the future of fingerprint recognition as it allows for two things, a full display phone without the fingerprint sensor on the back, and the removal of facial recognition which has been proven to not be as secure as its fingerprint counterpart. However, it looks like the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro will be utilizing both the technology with a twist on the fingerprint sensor.

Although the Mi 8 Pro is not the company’s first phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor, it has a unique feature that allows the phone to save battery when compared to other phones like the Vivo and Huawei.

The phone comes with the same specs as the non-Pro version, Snapdragon 845, 6.21-inch screen and the same dual 12MP sensors. However, it will come in an 8GB RAM variant and face detection, for those of you that still prefer facial recognition. Coming back to the in-display fingerprint sensor, the Mi 8 Pro will utilize pressure sensitive on its fingerprint reader. The reason behind this is so the sensor does not constantly drain the battery as it will only activate when a finger is placed on it, unlike other phones which are constantly searching for a fingerprint. At the same time, the company also announced the Mi 8 Lite which comes with a Snapdragon 660 processor, 4 or 6GB of RAM and a 24MP sensor on the front.

The Mi 8 Lite will be available on 25 September and the Mi 8 Pro will be available starting 21 September for $204 and $467 respectively.
