Xiaomi Mi 10 to come with a transparent version just like its predecessors

Leave it to Xiaomi to make transparent phones as they’ve done with the Mi 8 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition – and as we gear up for the global launch of the Xiaomi Mi 10, the company took to their Weibo page to show off a transparent version of the smartphone.

The Mi 10 series is an exciting phone, not just because of its hardware, but its affordable price as well – in China, the phones retail from RM2,790 for the base variant, and tops off at RM3,561 for the premium version.

A more-budget friendly 5G smartphone has been what we’ve asking for since a year ago, and this looks likely to be it. All variants – at least in China – support 5G connectivity; so far, our 5G-ready options are a bit pricey. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra costs RM4,999; the OPPO Find X2 series starts from RM3,999; and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G will set you back RM4,199.

Under the hood, both variants sport a Snapdragon 865 chipset with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB UFS3.0 internal storage for the Pro variant.

Both phones also come with a 6.67-inch FHD+ display that pushes a refresh rate of 90Hz – not quite the 120Hz you’d expect of a 2020 flagship, but still decent and it should offer better battery life as well on top of a smooth display. Plus, it also supports HDR10+ for a fuller gamut of colours.

For imaging, that’s where the two models start to vary – the Mi10 has a 108MP main shooter alongside a 13MP ultrawide shooter, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens; the Mi 10 Pro on the other hand, replaces the 13MP lens with an 8MP telephoto camera, a 12MP portrait lens and a 20MP ultrawide camera, while the 108MP main shooter remains. For selfies, both get a 20MP front lens, housed in a punch-hole module.

The phones will be globally launched this 27 March and we hope the transparent version reaches local shores too.
