The folks over at Xiaomi are a generous bunch when it comes to pre-release deets – Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, recently took to Weibo to share official renders of Xiaomi Mi 9’s design. We also know that the upcoming flagship will come with the new Snapdragon 855 chipset too.
According to GizmoChina, Xiaomi VP, Lu Weibing followed suit by confirming that an upcoming Redmi phone is also set to feature the powerful chipset. Although no word on which device will be graced with Qualcomm’s processing beast, but we suspect that the soon-to-be announced Redmi Note 7 Pro to receive the upgrade.
Redmi is typically regarded as an entry-level brand, so it appears that will soon change if this news is true. Imagine a sub-RM1,000 phone with flagship-level performance – what’s not to like?
But the realist in me says that we should remain cautiously optimistic; we’re not used to seeing top-of-the-line chipsets go in phones costing under RM2,000.
