If you already have, or are planning to get, a VR headset, we have some good news for you. At the Intel Developer Forum, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson announced that Windows Holographic will be made available to all sometime next year.

For those who do not know, Windows Holographic is a version of Windows 10 that is tailor-made for both virtual reality and augmented reality headsets. As mentioned previously, this version of Windows will utilise various components such as a custom shell, human-interaction systems and spatial mapping to create a mixed-reality computing experience.

Windows Holographic will be made available as an update to the standard Windows 10 desktop operating system for everyone, regardless of whether or not they have a VR or AR headset. This feature will be available for the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and the Microsoft HoloLens, with potentially mode devices being supported as time goes by.

In the meantime, Microsoft and Intel have also announced that they will be working on a specification for PCs and head-mounted displays that are able to support mixed reality applications. Said specification is due to be announced in December.
