Will iTunes shut down for real, or will Apple keep it alive?

iTunes has been serving Apple users for a long time since January 2001, but it seems like it might be coming to an end. Apple is rumoured to be shutting down iTunes and restructure its entertainment services.

It was recently discovered that iTunes’ Facebook page was without content — posts, photographs and videos — and only has a profile picture and a cover photo. Instead, Telegraph reported that these content were all transferred over to the Apple TV’s Facebook page.

Back in early April, Apple was said to be separating its main apps from iTunes — Music, Podcasts, TV and Books. However, iTunes was rumoured to be kept so that older iPods and iPhones can still manually sync with Mac.

Unless Apple came out with another alternative, the shut down of iTunes will greatly affect users with older iPhones and iPods. Will iTunes be gone for real before it reaches 20 years of service? Only time can tell.
