Wikipedia’s standard when it comes to sources can be rather lax to some. Unfortunately for the British tabloid The Daily Mail, that standard isn’t low enough. Today, the online encyclopedia has decided to issue a new-total ban on The Daily Mail.
The decision to almost-completely ban The Daily Mail from being used as a source comes after Wikipedia editors reached a consensus that the tabloid is “generally unreliable”. Some of the reasons as to why the tabloid is considered unreliable includes “poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication”.
While it is likely that The Daily Mail will no longer be cited for future articles, the tabloid itself can still be used for subjects that are considered accurate although this is subjected to the editors discretion. Another exception made to the ban is that The Daily Mail can be used as a source when it comes to an article featuring the tabloid itself or its staff. Apart from that though, The Daily Mail will no longer be used as a source on Wikipedia.
