After introducing end-to-end encryption in an attempt to boost the security of the app, WhatsApp may be looking at introducing yet another layer to its messaging app.
According to a tip sent to Android Authority, details were spotted as part of a text translation program for WhatsApp to convert strings from English to Dutch. Among some of those phrases includes “Enter the current six-digit passcode.”, “Passcodes don’t match. Try again.”, and “Enter a recovery email address”, all of which indicates that such a system may be introduced to WhatsApp at some point.
Further reports also indicate that the use of a recovery email may be optional. Usually, a recovery email is required so that the user is able to retreive his account in the event that he forgets his password. However, with the recovery email section being optional, this means that it is entirely possible for a user to be locked out of his account entirely should the user forgets his or her own account password.
No information was given as to when (or if) this feature will be rolled out. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see that WhatsApp is looking to prevent protect your chatlogs from both digital and physical snoopers.
