If you’re like us and have always complained about not being able to transfer WhatsApp chats between Android and iOS devices, you’ll be glad to know that the feature is now official, and it’ll be arriving in the coming weeks.
The catch is, the update won’t be available for the masses just yet – the first devices to receive this new feature will be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 smartphones which were announced last night.
Thank you @xdadevelopers for your recent discovery about the “Switch to Android” app, to migrate WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android. 🤩
These screenshots show how the process works. This feature is under development and it will be available in a future update. https://t.co/FmZbXi33L2 pic.twitter.com/w7GiCUHSuS— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) July 28, 2021
On top of that, the feature will only work when transferring iOS chats over to Android – which is all the better, because who wants to switch to iPhones anyways, right? (Just kidding)
The data transferring process can only be done offline, meaning you’ll need a Lightning-to-Type C cable for the feature to work.
There’s no word on when the update will be available to the masses and when it can be used to move from Android to iOS. Regardless of this, this is welcome announcement from WhatsApp, especially since it’s a much-requested feature we’ve been wanting since forever.
