WhatsApp added a voice call feature to the app last year, allowing users to make phone calls to others without any charges, just data usage. Recently, some WhatsApp beta users have reported seeing an additional feature being added in the Android version of the app. Behold, we’ll be having video calls in WhatsApp in the near future.
This isn’t the first discovery of WhatsApp adding video calls to its apps. Not too long ago in December last year, a couple of screenshots have leaked, showing the iOS WhatsApp having a video calling interface. According to FoneArena, a number of users have spotted the feature sneaking into WhatsApp beta version 2.16.80 for Android. Tapping on the call button will lead you to an option menu of Audio Call and Video Call instead of automatically initiating an Audio Call like before.
The feature on the beta version of WhatsApp was seemingly short lived, as it was removed with another app update. Looks like we’ll have to wait for now. Audio Calling rolled out at a gradually slow pace so we will be expecting WhatsApp to do the same for Video Calls as well. What do you think?
