You can use WhatsApp on multiple devices at one time soon – end-to-end encryption to improve too

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is confirmed to be developing multi-platform support for the app that allows a single phone number to be accessed on multiple devices at the same time.

Currently, the only thing close to this would be WhatsApp web which requires you to link your phone to your PC – should your phone lose its connection to the internet, WhatsApp Web ceases to receive messages as well.

This new development comes from the folks over at WABetaInfo who dug around the iOS 2.19.80.16 beta patch. It was a rumour at the beginning, but they’ve announced on the same day that the development is indeed confirmed.

According to the report, messages will be able to sync across devices as they’ll be stored on servers – and to bolster security, WhatsApp is also improving end-to-end encryption, despite your chats now being stored in servers.

This is not to be confused with chat backups which are stored on Google Drive for Android and iCloud for iOS – chat backups are essentially that, they’re restore points for your conversations and cannot be officially transferred from one OS to another (you can always use third-party programs to do that).

The beta mentions the update for iOS, but it’s likely that Android will receive it too. Plus, there is not ETA as of now on when the feature will be completed and be rolled out to devices – but this is good news if WhatsApp can bolster security.
