Western Digital unveils WD Red and Red Pro optimized for NAS systems

Western Digital has announced the expansion of its award-winning WD Red and WD Red Pro NAS hard drives lineup with the introduction of the 10TB capacity models optimized for personal, home and small to medium business NAS systems. Thanks to the helium-based design which enables a 25 percent capacity increase from the WD Red 8TB NAS storage drive and with the support for up to 16 bays in tower and racked-based systems, the hard drive will deliver the same performance, reliability and capacity to systems operating up to 16 bay NAS system.

Some of the features that come with this new hard drive is the 3D Active Balance Plus, a balance control technology that improves overall drive performance and reliability. There is also a seamless integration with Western Digital’s My Cloud Pro Series NAS and My Cloud Expert Series NAS systems designed specifically for the creative community to bring seamless transfer between devices whether users are shooting remotely or editing at home. Lastly, is the NASware 3.0 which is an enhanced version of the company’s original NASware technology designed to improve reliability and system performance, reduce customer downtime and simplify the integration process.

Both the drives are going through final compatibility testing with leading NAS system provides and the full list of WD Red-qualified products and manufacturers is available here. The drives are available in July at selected retailers and distributors. The WD Red 10TB drive will retail at RM2,249 with a three-year warranty and the WD Red Pro 10TB will retail at RM2,449 with five-year warranty.
